Each chopping board we make begins with a painting - a scene remembered from the hills, the fields, or a favourite farm gate!
This chopping board features The Hairy Highlands, our scruffy, shaggy Highland cows, full of charm and character, standing strong against the wind. Crafted from sustainably sourced Beech wood and handmade in our Essex countryside workshop, Our chopping boards are illustrated on one side, with the reverse left plain and sealed with a natural, food-safe oil.
Equal parts practical and endearing, it’s perfect for cheese boards, rustic lunches, or simply adding a bit of countryside soul to your home.
Each board is finished with The Humble Hare logo and tied with our classic blue ribbon and tag, which includes helpful care instructions to keep it looking its best.
Our wooden chopping boards are thoughtfully made to bring both beauty and function into the kitchen. One side features a decorative watercolour design. Our chopping boards are ideal for serving, styling, or simply leaning against the wall to bring a little art to your everyday.
Flip it over, and you’ll find a smooth, plain Beech surface, finished with a natural food-safe oil, ready for all the usual chopping, slicing, and prepping.

🌿 Cleaning
- Wipe clean with a damp cloth after use.
- For a deeper clean, wash gently by hand with mild soap and warm water.
- Never soak or put in the dishwasher this can cause the wood to warp or crack.
💨 Drying
- Always dry the board thoroughly after washing.
- Stand upright or lay flat in a well-ventilated spot to dry completely.
🪵 Oiling
- To keep the wood nourished and protected, re-oil your board regularly with a food-safe oil (we use natural mineral or butcher’s block oil).
- Apply a small amount with a soft cloth and let it absorb overnight. Wipe away any excess the next day.
🚫 Avoid
- Avoid prolonged contact with wet or acidic foods.
- Do not leave standing water or wet cloths on the board.
With a little care, your Beechwood board will only get better with age, developing a rich patina and staying a beautiful part of your kitchen for years to come.

At The Humble Hare, our love for marble will always be at the heart of what we do, its cool, quiet strength and timeless beauty continue to inspire every collection we create. But over time, a soft murmur from our customers grew louder, a longing for something earthier a material with warmth, grain, and quiet character.
And so, after much thought (and more than a few countryside walks), we listened, and followed our curiosity into the world of wood.
These new chopping boards are made from smooth, sustainably sourced Beechwood, a natural companion to our marble pieces, full of warmth, character, and charm. One side carries a watercolour design, created to capture a moment of stillness, a nod to the places and creatures we love. The other is left plain, practical, and ready to use every day.
It’s a new chapter for The Humble Hare, still rooted in quality, still shaped by nature, and always guided by the gentle voices of our customers.
