Filling your wooden urn
A guide written with care, for a moment that matters.
There is something beautifully personal about preparing your loved one’s resting place. It's a quiet act of love, handled with patience and tenderness. Before you begin, take a moment to gather a few simple things that will help you along the way: your wooden urn, a soft cloth, a small funnel, and a gentle touch.
Choose somewhere calm. Perhaps a table near soft light, or a favourite corner of your home. Lay down a cloth to keep things clean and still. This small space will hold a great deal of meaning for a few precious moments.
Opening the urn
Turn the urn carefully and loosen the base, letting each turn be slow and steady. The natural grain of the wood will feel warm beneath your hands, a reminder that this piece was made with thought, to hold something so precious.
Placing the ashes
You may wish to pour the ashes gently through a small funnel, letting them settle quietly inside, or you can place the sealed bag directly into the urn. Move at your own pace. There is no rush, no right or wrong, only what feels most comforting for you. If needed, a fine stick or toothpick can help guide the ashes softly into place.
Closing the urn
When you’re ready, replace the base and secure it gently. Some people choose to add a small drop of glue to the screws for added peace of mind, but this is entirely optional. What matters most is that it feels complete, safely enclosed, and at rest.
Placing in a meaningful spot
Once sealed, your urn is ready to take its place, perhaps on a mantel filled with photographs, near a window touched by morning light, or somewhere that brings calm and connection. Wherever it rests, it carries a story and a love that endures.
Caring for your wooden urn
Your urn has been crafted from solid wood, a natural material that appreciates gentle care. Keep it dry, away from damp, and occasionally dust with a soft, dry cloth to preserve its quiet beauty.
A lasting tribute
This moment, though delicate, is filled with meaning. Filling an urn is not only an act of remembrance, but one of devotion — a way to hold close what can never be forgotten. With time, this piece becomes more than wood and shape; it becomes part of your story, keeping a loved one near, and their memory ever warm in your heart.
